Multi Academy Trust Governing Body

Terms of Reference

1. The MAT Board:

Determines the vision, strategy and core values of the Trust
Selects the Headteacher of SKPS
Has oversight of financial strategy and budget responsibility schools within the Trust

2. SKPS LGB is a committee of the MAT (Multi Academy Trust) and has:

A scrutinising role in relation to the strategic development of SKPS
An advisory role in relation to the strategic links between SKPS and SKA

Governors' Roles and Responsibilities

The Governing Body’s role is to:

Develop a vision for the School
Challenge the performance of the School
Work with the Executive Principal and the Headteacher to set targets for the pupils in the school
Ensure there are proper HR and performance management systems in place for staff
Provide support and encouragement, and recognise and celebrate achievement

Responsibilities

The Governing Body’s key responsibilities are to:

Ensure quality educational provision
Challenge and monitor the performance of the school
Manage finance and property
Employ staff
Co-operate with other staff and institutions

The day to day running of the School is the responsibility of the Executive Principal and the Headteacher.

Monitoring and evaluation

The monitoring and evaluation that the Governing Body undertakes covers areas such as:

Curriculum, assessment and attainment
Behaviour and attendance
Views of school and local community
Staffing and budget
Accountability
Academy Development Plan

Governor training

All governors are required to complete two online training courses annually – Safeguarding and Child Protection and Channel General Awareness (Prevent). Further training is delivered at: a biennial Governor Awayday; an Annual Governor and Senior Leadership Team training session at Skinners’ Hall (organised by The Skinners’ Company) and in other sessions as required. SKPS Governors who also attend Full Governing Body meetings also receive a training session prior to each Full Governing Body meeting.

Governing Body Committees

There are four committees which meet separately – the MAT Staffing and Pay, MAT Finance and Resources, the SKA Local Governing Body and the SKPS Local governing Body. These committees allow Governors time to debate and examine key issues; they meet several times over the course of the Academy year report to the MAT Board.
